The Dark Knight

Wow, wow, wow and wow! What a great film, dark and sinister. And a reasonable story to go with it. However - Heath Ledger just blew everybody out of the water with his acting; I wouldn’t actually call it acting - I’d call it being the Joker. I agree with Michael Caine: that Ledger’s performance was on a par with Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs. Maybe alongside Daredevil, it’s perhaps the most intelligent film of the superhero genre that I’ve seen.

I cannot wait for it to come out on DVD/Bluray.

Untraceable

Just watched this at the Hoyt’s Cinema in Dunedin (Gaelic for Edinburgh… who knew? There’s also a statue of Robbie Burns here).

It’s just about watchable. Kind of a mixture of The Net and the Saw.

The preview of Hell Boy II looks quite good; the preview of the Incredible Hulk doesn’t (though I’m sure Steve will disagree).

Juno and Once

I watched Juno on the flight from Fiji to Auckland. It’s a great film, very Garden State-esque - leaving you with a smile on your face and lots of laughs. The main actress is superb, bit like Natalie Portman in Leon (N.P was also in Garden State….).

Just come back from watching ‘Once’ at a local art-house cinema in Napier. It’s also really good.

Check ‘em out!

Indy

The new Indiana Jones film is looking good, can’t wait for it to come out.

Trailer here. As long as it’s better than the Temple of Doom, I’ll be happy; if it’s better than Raiders, then I might just pass-out.

Very Tired

I’m now very tired after a fun few days.

Snow in Leeds, drinking too much red wine last night and suffering on public transport today - were some highs and lows.

Also went to the cinema to watch El Orfanato (The Orphanage), a Spanish film. Anyway - really good film, bit like The Others.

Nice and Nasty

My weekend was really good (apart from England being rubbish at rugby). Dropped into Witney to meet up with a friend, for a half day of drinking on Saturday. Sunday was very enjoyable - went into Oxford and watched one of my favourite Hitchcock films - Rear Window. Then I had Sunday lunch, then watched another film - The Bank Job. TBJ was a pretty good film, though it did have some Transporter-esque moments with Jason Statham fight sequences.

Today (Monday) was not so nice, maybe even nasty. Had to visit the dentist to get two crowns prepared. Three injections, hurty-drills, cement, x-rays and an hour later I have some temporary crowns, ready to be proper crowns in two weeks. I did find some humour in the visit though - the reception lady called up a Mrs Payne, to remind of her of an appointment.

Travelling over the Severn Road Bridge was not fun either - there was a van being blown from the hard-shoulder into the middle lane!
