Google Chrome OS

Thought I’d give their new virtual OS a whirl.

Windows 7:
- download Google Chrome OS
- download and install VMWare Player

On my Mac I use Sun Virtualbox, instead of VMWare.

Create the following in a file (e.g: chromeos.vmx) in the same location as the .vmdk file:

.encoding = "UTF-8"
displayName = "Chrome OS"
guestOS = "other"
memsize = "512"

ethernet0.present= "true"
ethernet0.startConnected = "true"
ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000"
ethernet0.connectionType = "bridged"
ethernet0.addressType = "generated"
ethernet0.generatedAddress = "00:0c:29:c5:da:60"
ethernet0.generatedAddressOffset = "0"

usb.present = "true"

ide0:0.present = "true"
ide0:0.fileName="chromeos-image-999.999.32309.211410-a1.vmdk"
ide0:0.deviceType = "disk"
ide0:0.mode = "persistent"
ide0:0.redo = ""
ide0:0.writeThrough = "false"
ide0:0.startConnected = "false"

virtualHW.version = "3"
config.version = "8"

extendedConfigFile = "chromeos-image-999.999.32309.211410-a1.vmxf"
virtualHW.productCompatibility = "hosted"
sound.present = "FALSE"
floppy0.present = "FALSE"
tools.syncTime = "FALSE"
uuid.location = "56 4d d9 3f 9a 20 7c 60-a5 a2 cb 9e e8 c5 da 60"
uuid.bios = "56 4d d9 3f 9a 20 7c 60-a5 a2 cb 9e e8 c5 da 60"
cleanShutdown = "FALSE"
replay.supported = "FALSE"
replay.filename = ""
vmotion.checkpointFBSize = "16777216"

Open the .vmx file in VMWare Player.

Updated T’other Site

I’ve updated my other site (see link on right =>) to use different shop-software. Sadly the WP-E-Commerce plugin was too riddled with bugs and the support is virtually non-existent from the company; the vast amount of support was from frustrated users.

I’m in the process of tidying up the graphics and CSS, but feel free to leave your feedback here.

Been a While

It’s been a while since the last post. Some strange things have been going on with my site – somebody seems intent on trying to hack it – so I’ve been keeping a close eye on the logs.

I’m not so keen on updating the blog with personal news anymore, too many suspicious things going on since the Guardian Jobs website hack, where loads of CVs (and the information contained in them) were accessed.

More Dreams

Two dreams that I remember from last night:

- stabbed myself in the heart and fell to the floor, watching my blood run into a drain. Then everything went dark – the end.

- a recurrence of the alien ship and being chased by fireball dream.

Last Week

Thursday – down to London to see friends. Watched Up! then finally met my best friend’s daughter at last. She’s a real cutie, with lots of smiles already at eight months.

Friday – flew to Bremen, met my friends’ new daughter – three months old. Lots of babies! Spent the rest of the time drinking and eating. Watched Bremen vs. Hoffenheim game in the local pub – Bremen won 2:0.

Monday – flew back and made my way into Oxford for two days. I read a lot of books and drank a lot of coffee in the coffee-houses.

Wednesday – met up with friends for a meal. Was supposed to play squash but got cancelled.

Thursday – dentist. All OK, though I have to stop chewing my cheeks. Back to Wales in the afternoon.

There.

Mabon

Went to Theatre Mwldan last night, in Cardigan, to watch Mabon play. They’re a Celtic band – five Welsh plus one Scot. Think Riverdance – and you’ll be close to the kind of music they play.

One of their pieces was called Nicolai the Dancing Bear, it was stunning and very moving. The Scot (Calum Stewart) did a flute solo that was also amazing.

One of their albums, OK Pewter, is on iTunes.

Appendix

This has been bugging me for a while now, so I’ll use this post to put down my thoughts.

Was listening to Radio2 and somebody called in, in response to vegetarianism. He said that humans should only be vegetarians because we have an appendix. Therefore we should not eat meat.

Our appendix is useless, it has no function anymore in our digestive system. We can’t break down cellulose, like herbivores can. If you get an appendectomy – you don’t die do you? You can still digest food.

We have carnivorous teeth, to bite into meat. We also have molars to chew and grind meat and vegetable matter. (A side note – Pandas have big incisor teeth, yet only eat vegetable matter).

There.

Exams

If you had to sit your GCSEs/equivalent again in two hours’ time, how many do you think you’d pass?

Independent Booksellers

Maybe things are starting to pick up a little bit for independent booksellers, according to Bookseller. Lots of them have been put out of business by Oxfam’s book-selling. Quite a quandary – support your local economy and businesses or give to charity, for other countries?
