I’ve pulled out of the interest in the bookshop. It was naive of me to think that I’d be able to run a small business, from having no experience. I can’t raise enough capital either, and there’s no way I want to go back to paying off a loan for the rest of my life.
Don’t know where to turn now, apart from back into I.T – but that’s such a depressing thought. Darkness descends once more.
Sorry to hear that.
Hopefully it’s the climate and something will eventually come to light.
Perhaps a different role in IT? Training, lecturer, anything like that make your head turn?
Hey Mark. I have a few ideas left to try out, but the current job-market sucks. Plus having been away for 2+ years doesn’t look good to recruiters; I hope they give me the chance to explain what I’ve been up to.
Yo Simon D.
Like any challenge in life the daunting thing is the great unknown but you have never been afraid of that. In business, weighing up the risks is key, so deciding to hang back is a good call if things weren’t quite right, but don’t let that put you off starting something. Careful plannning, a step by step approach and common sense is the key, you will be fine.
Having interviewed and recruited individuals with alsorts of backgrounds including time out for travel etc. a decent candidate will demonstrate how they have gained from the experience and a decent employer will be curious and look to apply those gains to the job.
A concern from an employer would be that you would go again and why would you want to be here when you have seen the delights of Australia etc. You’ll need to have an answer ready! What you have done is really not uncommon at any age nowadays, and in the current climate will become even more common.
You’re a hard worker, with a good CV and a world view. And I doubt you are on that black list going around the construction industry!! Were you?!!!
Whatever you pursue needs good luck too, so: GOOD LUCK!
