Probably wise. It’s a crap time to spend any more money than you need to.
But there is probably a core plan in there to continue to plug at. Make yourself self-sufficient, but perhaps in the luxury of a full-time job while you set things up.
There are worse plans than returning to software for a few years to pay the bills and let you ride out the recession, assuming there are jobs to be had in your area. Rent-a-coder?

You’re right to be cautious. Can you work as an assistant at the shop currently to get the valuable experience and the inside track of that actual business and whether it’s a go-er?
