Essay Not Done

About once or twice a year I have a dream about not doing an essay for a university-course, that causes me to fail the whole course. I think the topic of the essay was “Why is Welding Controversial?”.

Strange huh?

PHP and Mac OSX

For my reference only (Leopard 10.5.2):

sudo nano /etc/apache2/httpd.conf

uncomment following line:

LoadModule php5_module libexec/apache2/libphp5.so

Then restart apache.

Put files in /Library/WebServer/Documents/

This also led me to figure out where the damn hash key (#) might be hiding on the MacBook!

New Zealand

I’ve registered “an interest” on the New Zealand immigration page. Canada and NZ are the main countries that I’ve been interested in. I’ll be in NZ in May, to have a nose around. I don’t think I can stand much longer in the UK, it just depresses me.

A Sad Day

Terminated my Bigfoot account today, as all I get from it is spam these days. Must have had the account since the Bigfoot company was started in 1995.

Regrettably this was the only address that my Japanese friend (Keita Yokoyama (find me Google - we were at South Bank University in London)) used to contact me with - and I’ve lost contact with him :( I have found his old postal address on my PalmPilot, so will try and write to him - how old fashioned!!

Russia and China

Is anybody else concerned about what’s happening lately in the world?

Russia have twice been seen flexing their muscles - bomber fly-by of a US aircraft carrier. Russia also flying over Japanese air-space.

China supporting Darfur and losing Spielberg for the Olympics.

Price of Train Journeys

The price of train journeys is obscene. Some recent examples:

Return from Haverfordwest to London by train - £72 (cheapest I can find, using thetrainline.com)
Return from Cardiff to Glasgow by aeroplane - £80 (I booked quite late, can get even cheaper deals)
— Same trip on the train from Cardiff to Glasgow - £129.80, takes six hours and at least one change of train.

No wonder so many people are flying within the UK now, increasing the carbon-footprint of these people?

Train Journey

On the way back from Cardiff today, I heard a tale of Topsy and Tim. Then the mother asked her son what he could see in the woods:

“Tigers and lions and dinosaurs. Rawwwwwwww.
And two girls playing and tigers and lions and dinosaurs”

Made me laugh.

Aperture Priority

Think I’ve finally managed to take a picture with my D-SLR, where the object in the foreground is sharp and the background is blurred. Need to do some more experiments.

Might even go on a Canon training course.

Cetaceans

A friend of my parents asked if I’d like to go on a cetacean survey during the week - two day ferry trip to, and back, Ireland. Surveying dolphins etc. I might hold off until I find out what the sea is going to be like, as I don’t want to be sea-sick.
