Price of Train Journeys

The price of train journeys is obscene. Some recent examples:

Return from Haverfordwest to London by train – £72 (cheapest I can find, using thetrainline.com)
Return from Cardiff to Glasgow by aeroplane – £80 (I booked quite late, can get even cheaper deals)
— Same trip on the train from Cardiff to Glasgow – £129.80, takes six hours and at least one change of train.

No wonder so many people are flying within the UK now, increasing the carbon-footprint of these people?

Its often cheaper to either fly or drive which is a shame as I find travelling by train very civillised as well as environmentally sound. And if there’s two of you going its almost always cheaper to drive, and obviously easier!

I enjoy travelling by train; especially in mainland Europe, where tickets are cheap, trains are on time and are clean.
