My grandpa asked me this question yesterday. I think he meant 2008, but I gave him my answer anyway!

Another year flies by in the life of Simon Davies.

I have a horrible cold, much like every Christmas. My feet are being kept warm by new slippers, so all is not bad in the world.

I’ve been wracking my brain for ages, trying to remember the name of an artist (and specifically a picture) I saw at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The artist is Fred Tomaselli and the picture is called Field Guides. The picture was huge, at least a couple of meters high.

This was triggered off by buying my Dad The Drawing Book: A Survey of Drawing - The Primary Means of Expression for Christmas.

The type that is used for electronics goods, or for printing cartridges etc. I sliced my finger trying to open one of them and it’s impossible to open them without a pair of industrial scissors.

My team (Worcester) aren’t doing too well in the Premiership at the moment, though they have signed some really good players.

Wasps and Leicester Tigers haven’t been performing. Tigers need to give Goode a rest for a while, as he played like a Muppet today. Missing penalties and passing really badly. At least the prospects for the England rugby team look better now.

Disgrace - by J.M. Coetzee. Exceptionally well written book and a real page-turner.

Also read recently: Malaria Dreams: An African Adventure - by Stuart Stevens. Another really good book with lots of chuckle moments.

(This is really for my own reference!) I really like Flickr, but want to hide some of the Exif information that my camera adds to pictures (but show the actual camera model). Who needs to know what my camera’s serial number is - apart from me?

So:
- I downloaded a port of http://www.exiv2.org for the Macbook, and compiled it.
- Created the following settings file (exiv.set, for example):

set Exif.Canon.OwnerName "Simon Davies"
set Exif.Canon.SerialNumber 0
set Exif.Image.Artist "Simon Davies"


- then whenever I upload some pics, I run the following:

exiv2 -m ~/exiv.set *.JPG

I’m a regular follower of Dooce and today’s link to her husband’s site, to this entry was emotional.

Living in Wales now means that I need to learn some useful phrases.

I’m not sure if Jon Snow was being funny or not - but last night he was closing off the Channel 4 News article on Amy Winehouse and her drink/drug problems: he ended it by calling her Amy Wineglass. I’d love to know if that was deliberate or not. It made me chuckle, regardless.
