On reflection - I think the flooding of the flat has been a good thing. Maybe not from a financial point of view, but from the point of view of getting rid of 75% of the crap that I’ve been dragging along with me, each time I move from place to place. All of my possessions now take up less than half of a Ford Transit SWB van.
I think people place too high a value on the superficial things they collect. You have yourself and that’s about all you need, if you live by yourself. I will certainly be taking the line - that if I haven’t used something for a year - then it will either get binned, sold or given away.
The most precious thing that I got upset about losing was the first book my Grandpa bought for me - Lord of the Rings; I’ve had it for nearly 25 years. I also lost the pictures of my pre-adoptive family, but I haven’t had them that long, so paradoxically I’m not too emotional about them.
Have a good luck at those boxes of stuff that you carry around - imagine losing them to flooding and if it doesn’t worry you that much - chuck ‘em out!

What’s the point in males wearing those jeans that hang below your arse? Do they realise what knobs they look like? I saw somebody running to a train, in France, who had some on - he looked hilarious.

Back in the UK to sort flat out. Not as much damage to my stuff as I thought. Will ring insurance tomorrow, to see when I can get rid of rubbish and return to trip.

Well. The train journey from Bremen to Copenhagen was pretty knackering. The train actually boarding the ferry at Pottgarden, to Denmark, was a strange experience. Must have been a long ferry.
Checking my e-mails I found out that the flat in Witney has been flooded, so I’m going back on the 25th to do all the insurance stuff and move what’s left to my parents’ house. Strangely enough I feel quite calm about this - might be the Carlsberg that I’ve been drinking…..?

Big storm with lots of rain when I left Ghent. Took the tain to Antwerp, almost stayed for a bit - but I’ve been there before. Then took the train to Amsterdam. We had to change trains along the way for some reason when we got into the Netherlands. It was also raining in Amsterdam, but now (21st) is really sunny - so will go for a walk and then think about getting to Bremen, Germany.
I’ve been to Amsterdam before, so I don’t really feel the need to see Van Gogh’s paintings, or Anne Frank’s bedroom again!

Spent my first night in a very loud hostel, with lots of kids running around as they are inclined to do. No major problems, as of yet, apart from the N key on this crap internet terminal not working very well. Off to Brussels later on, after I’ve been to the Louvre museum.

Just come back from a weekend at Lorna’s, for her house-warming party in Leeds. I’m now pretty tired.
Not looking forward to finalising packing tomorrow, ready for my departure to Europe.
