time for upgrade

Well, finally taken the plunge and have ordered the basis of a new computer-

Intel Core 2 Duo E6400
Abit AW9D-Max WiFi i975X motherboard
2GB DDR2 RAM
BFG 320MB Nvidia 8800 video card
650W PSU

All the other bits will be taken from existing PC. I sure hope everything works! I’ve built all my own PCs so far, so should be ok. Been a while since I’ve used Intel, as always been a fan of AMD.

No, I am not moving to Vista. I will wait for that to mature with at least one major service pack release. I would rather not be a Microsoft Beta tester for their operating system.

PS. Also got a new monitor. The reviews were pretty much all 5* and the price is right!

walk

Still wet and muddy but decided it was time for a walk. Some pictures of trees:

how exciting?

my kind of humour

Stumbled across the blog of Dooce. She has one of the funniest sites I have ever found. I forbid you to read this page and not laugh out loud many times. If you don’t laugh once, then you’ll never get me. There is also a lot of serious stuff on there as well; sometimes you start smiling, then something quite poignant will be said.

just smile

This made me smile, so I think it’s worthy of a link.

Which also links nicely in to the enjoyment I get out of seeing babies smile and even better - laugh. Making a baby laugh (and to a lesser extent adults) - is something I cherish.

Mobile phone random picture - Beck’s brewery in Bremen. I love Bremen, been there every year for seven or eight years now.

Beck’s

I despair

“Id be graceful for an direction.”

The level of English skills on helpdesks is quite sad sometimes. Ok - I don’t know how to use commas and hyphens.

Do kids actually learn anything at school, apart from how to write in text-speak?

two hoots

Keep getting woken up around 5am by two owls. This has led to me being pretty tired this week.

Dreamt I was a pool-cleaner last night. Is this as good as life gets?

nice shoes

I love Merrell shoes. Got a new pair of walking shoes and they’re so comfortable. I had a pair of walking boots as well, which I used in Peru, and I never wanted to take them off - they were like wearing gloves. I have a pair of Salomon walking boots at the moment and I don’t like them at all; my ankle keeps getting chafed and the arch support isn’t good - I ended up with plantar fasciitis the last walk I did, up Snowdon, with them.

Top Gear

Meant to write this after seeing the first showing.
The most I have laughed this year - watching them travel to New Orleans, in three cars. They painted their cars with partially offensive slogans (Country and Western music is rubbish; Vote for Hillary etc). They pulled into a gas station (petrol station) and the owner called up a bunch of…erm… to be politically correct or not….. her friends, who started throwing rocks at the Top Gear presenters. Absolutely superb comedy!

Frou Frou

Strange name -Frou Frou. Amazon recommended this to me and the reviews were good, so I bought it. After hearing the first track, I know why: Garden State - a superb film. I have now added Imogen Heap to my wishlist, to be purchased sometime soon.

Here’s a song, by Frou Frou, from the film:

A History of Violence

Flimsy story line and pretty wooden acting. Which was a shame as I was expecting better from Viggo Mortensen. Maria Bello is still very very pretty, she was fab in The Cooler.
